I’m behind on comic strips a little because I had to take a day off for a GI party at my house. Now that it’s clean, I can get back to work. I don’t think it would pass any kind of inspection, though. I’ll have to cut the lawn when it stops raining, too, before the tall grass attracts lions and I get a Ghost and the Darkness situation going on. That was a good movie, right?
Speaking of good movies, my wife and I watched the show, Star City on Apple TV. It’s set in the same fictional universe as For All Mankind and tells that show’s alternate reality space race story from the Soviet point of view. It was very good, and I was sorry to see season one end. I hope it gets renewed! As a veteran of the late Cold War era, I’m interested in anything with the USSR in it.
I hope you all have a great week. New comics are on the way! I hope you like them.
For what seems like a whole year, there hasn’t been a military news story that I wanted to make a comic about. Now, there are so many stories, I can hardly keep up! Today’s comic is the first of a few that are coming your way. The next one will be about the Blue Angels. After that I may make one centering on the feud between the VFW and the government. The strip I have written about Keith’s dream job will have to wait a short while. Have a great weekend!
The latest Fort Familyroom comic strip is a remake of one from October of 2022. I’ve been redrawing several old cartoons lately because my skills have improved, and when I look at the old ones, I’m not satisfied with them. I used to just repost the old comics, but I think recreating them is a better idea.
The next comic will be about Keith’s dream job. I’ll have to write some more after that. I hope you all have a great day!
Today’s comic strip brought back memories of Germany in 1986. I was a nineteen-year-old PFC stationed in a country where I could legally drink alcohol. My barracks was in Kitzingen, and the thing to do there for a good time was to hop on the train to Frankfurt and hit the red-light district. So, I tagged along with a group of soldiers doing just that.
I grew up in small towns in Pennsylvania and Missouri, so the things I saw when I got off the train were almost too much for me to handle. There were nude women everywhere you looked, and I was still a virgin. It’s a good thing I was not alone.
You go to these places in groups so your buddies can keep you out of trouble. If I had gone alone, I probably would have married a stripper. In the ten years I was in the army I knew several dudes who did.
I’ll tell you one thing. I make a better cartoonist than I do a small engine repairman. I spent the whole day on Monday replacing the spindles on my riding lawnmower. It took hours to get the nuts off the old ones. I had to rig a bunch of stupid contraptions up to break those holding on the pullies. Then, when it was time to put the new parts on, I broke two of the bolts. Frustrated, I left one of the new spindles attached with only two bolts. It seems sturdy enough. I cut the grass just fine with it. I guess at some point it will fall out, but for now I’m good.
