I spent America’s 250^th birthday comforting my chihuahua, and I missed out on all the fun. I’d like to say it was a quiet, relaxing weekend, but that was not the case. That’s pet ownership for you. Since I already complained about this in a previous newsletter, I won’t go on more about it now.

Several of the comics I’ve done recently have been doing great on Facebook. The one about the military holidays is the clear winner, followed close behind by the Air Force strip, and the combat engineer watching fireworks. I love it when my hard work pays off. When I say “hard” work, I mean sitting at my drawing pad for hours a day, giving myself back pain.

Coming up this week, there is a cartoon about aliens encountering a marine, and a one about Carmelita’s ex-boyfriend, who was a lieutenant. I’ll probably browse my archives and redo one or two old Fort Familyroom comics, also. I hope you all have a great week. Thanks for reading!

I’m the commander of the color guard for my VFW post, and the other day our local Wal-Mart had an anniversary celebration that we took part in. It was only supposed to be a 25-minute thing but lasted closer to an hour, most of which we stood at parade rest. That’s not easy to do when you’re an old man.

Even though it was grueling, I was sure everything was going perfectly. I gave all the commands flawlessly, and I just knew we looked sharp. The post commander was filling in as a member of the color guard, and when the ceremony was over, he said to me, “your hat’s on backwards”.

I fixed my hat and quickly exited the store. I’ve been searching for photos of the event online but haven’t found any. I’m sure my VFW post comrades will not let me live this down for a year or so.

I hate this time of year. I really do. It’s because of all the assholes setting off fireworks for two weeks straight. I don’t have anything against fireworks, other than thinking they are boring because I was a combat engineer for ten years, but my little dog is terrified of them. So, I spend late June and early July, every year, holding and comforting her. Tonight will be like D Day. The city sets off their fireworks right beside my house. I have to wrap her in a blanket and cover her ears the entire time. OK, I’ll quit whining now.

The Facebook police put another ticket under our wiper! This time they sent us a message stating they were no longer recommending us to audiences under 18 years of age. That’s fine with us! I just hope that doesn’t come with any serious penalties.

I don’t mind them cracking down. Some things on the platform were getting out of control. One of their new policies helps us a good deal. People stealing memes can no longer monetize them, and those posting original content are put out front when it comes to getting paid.
