I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend! I spent most of mine dogsitting and working on comics. Yesterday, I put on my VFW uniform and was part of the color guard for our post’s Memorial Day presentation. We had a good turnout.

I was pleased to see the old comic I redrew go viral on Facebook. It always makes me feel good when that happens. Not only did the comic itself do great, but the reel we made from the comic panels blew up too!

This week you can expect another Anatomy of Hos strip: the Anatomy of a Barracks Ho. There will also be a comic about what a big liar Daredevil is. Enjoy your week!

I hope everyone has a great Memorial Day weekend! Jill and I aren’t doing anything special, but we are watching my son’s dogs while he takes his family on a trip. On Monday I’ll participate in the Memorial Day ceremony at the VFW.

The comic I posted today is a remake of an old one. When I originally posted it in 2021, Facebook took it down because I used the word, “gay” in the punchline. I had to repost it using the word, “queer” with some of the letters censored.

One of my favorite cartoonists, Dave Kellet, has been doing these “Anatomy of” strips for his comic, Sheldon. He’s done a series of them for dinosaurs, dogs, and monsters. The warm weather is here! That means yard work, and VFW color guard events. I only mention it because sometimes these things interfere with drawing comics.

Speaking of yard work, when I first started Fort Familyroom in 2019, I remember setting a goal to make enough money with the comic to pay someone to cut my grass. Now, years later, I have achieved that goal. Barely. I’m not going to do it, though. The yard work is all that gets me outside!

A few years ago the Fort Familyroom comic strip wasn’t doing very well, and I decided to post a comic with cartoon nudity in it. I posted it on social media with a “censored” image over the naughty bits, and put the uncensored image on Patreon. I got a subscriber out of it.

I did something like this every now and again with the same results. I have to be honest, I didn’t feel right doing this. It seemed like an unsavory way to get patrons, and the comics with the nudity in them were not very funny. I was just coming up with excuses to put boobies in my cartoons.

Recently, I have been writing proper jokes for all my comics, and throwing in the nudity to make the strips funnier. I feel good about what I’m doing now because my work is better. Art is art!
