One thing I’ve noticed is that when I write a comic it’s best to let it fester for a day or so. When I look at it again after some time has passed, I can always improve it. That’s the case with the latest one. I thought of a better punchline a few days after writing it. I hope you all are enjoying your week!

In my spare time I’ve been playing video games. I’ve always been a gamer but have been taking a break for a few years. I have a PS5 with my go to games being Conan Exiles, Red Dead Redemption 2, and GTA 5. Currently, I’m playing the third one. I own almost everything in the game, but there has been some new content since I last played. My character looks like Keith Creeger, by the way.

Today’s comic was inspired by the battalion commander we had when I was stationed in Germany. He had a lisp. Since we were a combat engineer unit, he called us sappers…I mean, thapperth. One time, during a battalion run, he jumped out and started calling cadence. The only thing that kept us from laughing was the sergeant major. He was a Vietnam vet and mean as hell. We had to laugh on the inside. Have a good one!

I was scrolling in bed the other night, and clicked on an interview of Pete Barlow, the GI Lowe cartoonist, by Joes: The Cold War Diaries for episode 28 of their Booze Briefing. It was a good interview, and as I watched it, I got a big surprise. Scott Burkett, the author and interviewer, mentioned Fort Familyroom not once, but twice! He said it was one of three military cartoons that most veterans read. The other two were GI Lowe and Private Murphy. It was really cool, and I went to sleep with a smile on my face. We got off to a late start this week due to some appointments and necessary yard work. We’re back in business now, though. Today’s comic is about the SMLM cards we handed out to soldiers when I was an S-2 clerk in Germany in the 80s. In the two years I was stationed there, I never saw a SMLM vehicle. Did any of you?

Humpy, the new character I introduced in this latest comic, was fun to design. Because of the joke, I wanted to make him an individual with a low IQ. I immediately settled on him being a grunt. I did a Google search on how to make a character look stupid, and I was off to the races.

The next comic I’m working on features Shammer on a new diet. That one will post later today on Patreon, and tomorrow on social media. I hope everyone is enjoying the week!
